Actor Nazish Jahangir has been getting a lot of flak from Babar Azam fans after making comments about a hypothetical marriage proposal from Pakistani cricket team captain Babar Azam.
The incident occurred when Ms Jahangir, on Instagram, responded to a question about her reaction if Azam were to propose to her, saying “I will respectfully decline the offer.”
Ms Jahangir was the target of trolling after Babar’s fans took offense at her reaction, which made her change her Instagram account from public to private in order to avoid more backlash.
Following the controversy, Ms Jahangir responded with a retort after someone circulated a fake screenshot allegedly showing her angrily scolding people who were ridiculing her for turning down Babar’s alleged proposal. Dismissing the fabricated screenshot, Jahangir expressed disappointment at the behavior of the trolls, remarking, “It’s sad how these barbarians show their true colors or defame not just me, but also our Babar Azam. They are screaming for respect for him, I can only feel pity for them.”
The actor maintained her position in the face of abuse and trolling, stating, “I’m just not saying anything disrespectful because there’s a huge difference between your stature and mine… so carry on.”
Furthermore, she made it clear that her earlier remark about Babar had been misunderstood, stressing that she regards all national cricketers as akin to brothers. She appealed to Babar’s supporters to abstain from spreading negativity and reaffirmed her impartial stance towards cricketers, saying, “I have no personal involvement with cricketers, they are all like brothers to me, to be honest.”
Jahangir reiterated her previous statement about not marrying anyone from the entertainment industry, stating her preference for a partner from beyond Pakistan and expressing a desire to settle abroad post-marriage.
