Karachi Wholesale Grocers Association Chairman Abdul Rauf Ibrahim has said that Sindh is facing a shortage of 20 lakh tonnes of wheat, while the country is facing a wheat shortage of 50 lakh tonnes, so the government should allow the import of wheat without any further delay.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim urged the chief ministers of all four provinces and the prime minister to take notice of this situation and grant permission for the import of wheat.
He said that the formula of deregulation has failed for the last two years, which is also affecting the farmers.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that farmers are facing a grim situation due to the unavailability of support prices.
He said that the Rs 3500 per mound support price also became ineffective. He claimed that the government’s wheat purchase price is Rs87.59 per kilogram.
Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said that we should focus on agriculture in the coming days. He said that roti is a basic need of human life.
He said that the storage of wheat led to a shortage of wheat. He expressed the fear that the gap will be deepened in the demand and supply of wheat.
He appealed to the government to take effective measures to address the issue; otherwise, the situation will be further worsened.
