ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, asserted on Tuesday that those responsible for stealing the CCTV footage are the culprits behind the riots that unfolded on May 9th.
In a communication relayed through a designated platform, he reiterated that the theft of the CCTV footage directly correlates with the orchestration of the May 9th vandalism.
The May 9th disturbances, characterized by violent clashes, occurred in 2023 following Imran Khan’s arrest at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which escalated PTI supporters’ demonstrations into chaotic riots.
Imran Khan’s statement, disseminated late Tuesday night, straightforwardly identifies the perpetrators of the May 9th events as those who absconded with the CCTV footage during the public uproar surrounding his arrest on that day.
Meanwhile, a meeting was convened by five major opposition parties, including PTI, to explore the possibility of forging a formidable opposition alliance to challenge the government.
Chairman of PTI, Gohar Ali Khan, along with leaders from Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), attended the gathering.
The meeting also saw the participation of Majlis-e-Wadhat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) head, Allama Nasir Abbas, Balochistan National Party (BNP) Chairman, Sardar Akhtar Mengal, as well as the opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, and Asad Qaiser.
Sources familiar with the meeting revealed that discussions primarily centered on the formation of a unified opposition alliance, prompted by the government’s reluctance to address allegations of electoral rigging in the February 8th general elections.
