Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has emphasized that Punjabis should take pride in their language.
She expressed concern that many Punjabis do not speak Punjabi with pride, opting to teach their children Urdu or English instead. Maryam Nawaz urged parents to ensure that their children learn Punjabi alongside English and Urdu.
During her attendance at the Punjab Cultural Day event, Maryam Nawaz visited various stalls, showing keen interest in handicraft products. In her address at the event, she highlighted the global trend where people proudly speak their mother tongue, contrasting it with the observed reluctance among Punjabis to do the same.
Addressing the audience, Maryam Nawaz acknowledged the prevailing practice, including her own, of not speaking Punjabi with pride. She asserted her identity as a true Punjabi but underscored the need for a positive change in this regard.
Maryam Nawaz also cautioned against the erosion of traditional values, emphasizing that being disrespectful in politics and neglecting the honor of mothers and sisters can weaken societal foundations. She lamented the diminishing culture of tolerance, considering it a matter of significant concern.
