Karachi is expected to experience strong winds on Saturday (today), with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting a dry and cool weather pattern for the next 24 hours. Winds blowing from the northeast are expected to reach speeds of 15 kilometers per hour. The city has also recorded a temperature drop to 14.5°C, accompanied by a humidity level of 54%, according to the PMD.
It’s been about a week since Karachi has been witnessing intermittent bouts of gushing winds, adding a chill to the coastal city’s usually warm climate. Despite the windy conditions, the weather is expected to remain relatively calm and dry throughout the day, with temperatures likely to stay low.
Meanwhile, in other parts of the country, a severe cold wave is gripping several regions, particularly in the northern and northwestern areas. The PMD has issued warnings about intensifying cold conditions over the next few days, with rain and snowfall predicted across multiple regions from January 18 to 20.
The western weather system moving into the country is expected to bring substantial rainfall to areas like Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Barkhan, Qalat, and Khuzdar, as well as to cities in the Islamabad and Rawalpindi regions, including Attock, Jhelum, and Chakwal. Heavy snowfall is expected in the hilly areas of Murree, Galiyat, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, creating a picturesque but harsh winter landscape.
Balochistan is also bracing for significant rain, with concerns over flooding in some areas due to the expected intensity of the downpours. The weather system is likely to disrupt daily life in these regions, and authorities are advising residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
In Punjab, dense fog has enveloped several areas, severely reducing visibility. As a result, the motorway from Samundri to Dera Khana and from Gojra to Multan has been closed. Motorway police are urging travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys, as the foggy conditions pose a significant safety risk.
Overall, the country is witnessing a mix of chilly, stormy, and foggy conditions, as the cold wave continues to affect the weather across Pakistan. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are advising the public to stay informed about changing conditions, especially in areas with heavy rain, snow, and reduced visibility.
