Police on Friday lodged a first information report (FIR) and arrested several individuals for briefly stopping First Lady Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari’s convoy at Jamshoro toll plaza while she was traveling from Karachi to Nawabshah.
According to media reports citing police sources, a group of agitated demonstrators intercepted the convoy and chanted slogans opposing the contentious canal project and corporate farming initiatives. Some protesters reportedly struck the convoy vehicles with their hands and sticks, resulting in a brief but tense situation on the highway.
The security detail accompanying the convoy, in coordination with Hyderabad and Jamshoro police, responded promptly. Aseefa Bhutto’s vehicle was safely escorted away from the scene without any incident.
SSP Jamshoro Zafar Siddiq confirmed that the convoy was delayed for less than a minute and that neither the Member of the National Assembly nor her security personnel sustained any harm.
“Whenever there is a breach of the law, police respond appropriately,” the SSP said during a media briefing. He further disclosed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against those involved in attempting to disrupt public order.
