Upto 30 people died during robberies in 2019
KARACHI: At least 32 people have lost their lives so far in 2019 for putting up resistance being robberies.
According to police data, 8 of them were killed in February, 3 in March, April, and May, 2 in June, 3 in July, 5 in August, 4 in September and 1 in October till now.
More than 34,000 mobile phones, 19,055 motorcycles, and 1,104 cars have been snatched so far this year.
The figures are going down when compared to data from previous years, but they are still very high.
According to police, 631 street criminals have been arrested this year 1,187 street criminals in 2018 and 870 in 2017have been arrested.
According to Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon, 60 percent of the street criminals are drug users.
Ghulam Nabi Memon said that these people need money to buy drugs and commit crimes to get that money.
Ghulam Nabi Memon said, “If we want to reduce the street crime rate, we have to take strong action against drug peddlers.”
According to police data, at least 25 dacoits and street criminals have been killed in different encounters in 2019.
Karachi is a megalopolis with a population of about 22 million, where the number of vehicles is 4.9 million, 32.4 percent of the cars and 54.5 percent motorcycles.
