After being accused, MPAs Sardar Chandio and Burhan Chandio entered a not guilty plea. In order to move the matter along, the court called witnesses at the subsequent hearing on December 3.

After the indictment, MPA Sardar addressed the media and said, “We have recorded our remarks in the court.” adding that they will argue their case at the ensuing session.

During the hearing, strict security precautions were in place. To prevent any unforeseen incidents, a sizable police detachment was placed on standby.

The two brothers along with five other suspects, identified as Ali Gohar, Sattar, Sikandar, Murtaza and Zulfiqar, were nominated as accused in the triple murder of Raees Karamullah Chandio.

The bereaved family, which was politically associated with the PPP, believed that the attack was carried out at the behest of Sardar, who was the chieftain of his tribe in Mehar, and his younger brother Burhan, the then aide to the Sindh chief minister.

The initial information reports were filed by Pervaiz Ahmed Chandio, a surviving son of the late Karamullah, who also named the suspects. In the initial information report, Pervaiz had charged the two powerful brothers with involvement in the attack on their home and the slayings of his three close relatives.
