KARACHI: At least two doctors have been tested positive with novel coronavirus at the National Institute of Child Health (NICH).
Along with the infected doctors, the working staff has also been quarantined. The emergency of the NICH was closed for an hour to disinfect the premises after the detection of two cases.
The number of health professionals contracted coronavirus reached 509 in Pakistan. The country is witnessing a consistent increase in coronavirus cases while the health professionals working on the front line are also falling prey to the pandemic.
During the last 24 hours, three doctors from Balochistan tested positive, 5 from Islamabad, and one each in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). Overall 273 doctors, 75 nurses, and 171 health staff members became the victim of coronavirus so far.
Last month, a female doctor at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital contracted the coronavirus. The doctor’s husband, who is also a doctor at another hospital, had contacted the virus earlier.
In this regard, Pakistan Doctors’ Association had demanded the government strict lockdown restrictions across the country to stop the spread of coronavirus. The doctors said that the authorities should take responsibility and ban all kinds of congregational prayers otherwise the virus could spread in the next two weeks rapidly.
