KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases have surged to 22,550 in Pakistan today, while the death toll stands at 526.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 1,049 cases of coronavirus were reported while 40 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 6,127 patients have recovered from the disease, while 153 are said to be critical as the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases witnessed a sharp increase in all provinces. Out of a total of 22,550 confirmed cases, Sindh has reported 8,189 cases, Punjab 8,420, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 3,499, Balochistan 1,495, Islamabad Capital Territory 485, Gilgit-Baltistan 386 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir 76.
Out of a total of 526 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 194, Sindh 148, Balochistan 21, Gilgit-Baltistan 03, Punjab 156, and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 04 deaths.
A partial lockdown has been imposed across the provinces to stem the spread of the infection. The government has also launched the Insaf Imdad Program to help poor segments of society in difficult times.
As per details, 21 percent of the cases have foreign travel history while 79 percent of the cases are reported to be locally transmitted.
Moreover, the World Health Organisation (WHO) earlier warned that the number of estimated coronavirus cases in Pakistan can rise to an estimated 200,000 by mid-July if effective interventions are not taken.
