KARACHI: Police claimed to have arrested three men on the charges of raping a woman patient at Larkana General Hospital.
As per details, the woman’s husband lodged a complaint with the police and accused a doctor and three ward boys of raping his wife. In the complaint woman’s husband alleged that the accused gave her sedatives and then raped her during the operation.
The 22-year-old woman was undergoing treatment for her broken leg, according to the complainant. An FIR of the incident had been registered under sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the PPC.
The accused, including the doctor, his assistant and two others, were taken into custody, according to the police. The doctor was released after questioning, while the three other men were arrested.
The survivor told the police that she was conscious at the time of the rape, according to Larkana City ASP Ahmed Faisal Chaudhry. She said the victim could identify the culprits.
The police official said that samples have been collected from the survivor and sent to a lab to confirm the presence of any external DNA. “If an external DNA was found, it would be cross-matched with that of the accused’,” he said.
The arrested criminals are members of the doctor’s staff, according to the official. The police have sealed the operation theatre and retrieved CCTV footage of the hospital but there was no camera outside the operation theater.
A local court remanded the accused in police custody for five days on Saturday. Further investigation is underway.
