KARACHI: Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of three transgender persons in Memon Goth last month, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to Memon Goth Police, the suspects — identified as Sikandar, Sohail, and Sikandar Ali — were taken into custody over their alleged involvement in the shooting incident that occurred on the night of September 20–21, in which three members of the transgender community were killed.
Police said the accused confessed during interrogation that they opened fire while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Investigators revealed that the suspects are residents of Karachi and interior Sindh, with prior involvement in street crimes and other criminal activities.
According to SSP Investigation, further inquiries are underway to verify the suspects’ criminal records and explore their possible links to other cases.
Police termed the arrests a major breakthrough in the investigation into the targeted killings that had sparked outrage among human rights groups and the transgender community.
