Y-Asix reported on Friday that Sweden is grappling with a shortage of skilled labor in various fields, creating a demand for over 100,000 skilled workers. This presents significant opportunities for foreigners, including Pakistanis, to apply for jobs in their respective expertise.
The sectors facing a shortage of skilled workers encompass IT, healthcare, engineering, education, construction, manufacturing, and machine operations. To be eligible for a Swedish work visa, foreign workers must be offered a minimum salary of €1,220, as stipulated by Swedish law.
The most sought-after professions include doctors, midwives, civil engineers, police officers, primary school teachers, nursing assistants, system analysts, IT architects, software and system developers, specialist nurses, and special needs teachers and educators.
The European Labour Authority reports that 41% of private employers and 60% of public employers have encountered a shortage of workers in the past six months during recruitment.
Beyond IT and healthcare, shortages are also observed in the construction, skilled trades, agriculture, transportation, manufacturing, and machine operations sectors. Occupations in high demand within these sectors include healthcare assistants, bus and tram drivers, plumbers, pipefitters, welders, carpenters, joiners, manufacturing machine operators, mobile farm and forestry plant operators, agricultural and industrial machinery mechanics and repairers, construction workers, motor vehicle mechanics, and repairers.
Foreigners possessing expertise in any of these specified occupations stand a greater chance of securing a Swedish work visa amid the country’s ongoing labor shortage.
