A three-member investigative committee, appointed by Sindh’s caretaker minister Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqar, has discovered significant irregularities in the results of examinations conducted by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK).
The inquiry was initiated in response to mass student failures in the inter-exams, leading to protests.
The committee’s report disclosed tampering in the results of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Eight officers of the Karachi Intermediate Board have been identified as responsible for the manipulation. Former chairmen, Dr Saeedudin and Naseem Memon, among others, are implicated in the irregularities. The Sindh government has forwarded a letter to the anti-corruption department, urging the registration of cases against those accountable.
Following the dissatisfaction of numerous students who failed the intermediate examinations, a large number of scrutiny forms are being submitted to the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK). Discontented with the results, the affected students took to the streets in protest. Parents expressed frustration, highlighting the financial burden of education and criticizing the BIEK for charging Rs400 for each subject’s scrutiny.
