Police claimed to have arrested a suspect involved in the rape and murder of a woman whose body was found in Clifton earlier this week.
According to details, the body of Shehnaz Arshad Gul was recovered on 25 November near the Urban Forest in Clifton, bearing clear signs of torture. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted before being killed.
DIG South Syed Asad Raza said a resident of Akhtar Colony, who was acquainted with the victim, had been taken into custody.
During questioning, the suspect told police that he had met the woman on 22 November near Clifton. He claimed an argument over money escalated into a physical altercation, during which the woman snatched his phone. Enraged, he allegedly struck her repeatedly on the head and face with a large stone, killing her. He later fled with her mobile phone and cash.
The DIG said the suspect had confessed to the crime. He added that the man had attempted to conceal the victim’s identity by disfiguring her face with a heavy stone and burning her fingers with a lighter.
Police recovered the stolen mobile phone from the suspect.
The victim, a resident of Saeedabad in Baldia Town and originally from Mian Channu in Khanewal district, had been missing since 22 November. Her son had filed a missing person report at the Madina Colony police station.
Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said the decomposing body, with its facial features unrecognizable, had been found in an open field within the jurisdiction of the Boat Basin police station.
