Bollywood actor Sushmita Sen has opposed the construction and consecration of the Hindu temple ‘Ram Mandir’.
Inaugurated by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the controversial ‘Ram Mandir’ was on the site of the razed Babri Mosque in Ayodhya.
As many Bollywood stars celebrated the opening of the Hindu temple built on grounds where the historic Mughal-era mosque stood for centuries before it was demolished in 1992 by Hindu zealots incited by members of his party, there were some saner voices in India who were not happy with the move.
A number of celebrities from film industries took to social media to share the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, in what was seen as criticism of the state-sponsored celebration of the event. They were of the view that it went against the secular values of the country and Sen was one of them.
The actress reposted writer-director Atul Mongia’s Instagram post featuring a picture of the Constitution’s Preamble with the caption “#Motherland.” Several well-known Malayalam film personalities also shared images of the Constitution’s Preamble.
