Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Sumair Ahmad Syed as the new Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board, replacing Salman Naseer, who has now been appointed as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), a newly created position without constitutional backing.
The PCB issued a press release following its 75th Board of Governors (BoG) meeting, chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi at the National Cricket Academy on Saturday. The announcement highlighted Sumair’s extensive experience, having most recently served as Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sumair will take over the COO role from Salman Naseer, who has been reassigned as an Adviser to the PCB Chairman and as CEO of the PSL department. The press release also noted that Salman had previously stated he would not seek a contract renewal as COO after his term concludes in February 2025.
Sumair’s career includes serving as Secretary to the Chief Minister of Punjab under Naqvi. After Naqvi’s term ended, Sumair was transferred to Islamabad, where he worked as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office before returning to join the PCB team under Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership.
Welcoming Sumair, Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence in his administrative abilities, stating, “Sumair is a highly accomplished professional, and we believe his leadership will help strengthen our administrative structures and bring us closer to our goal of becoming a high-performing, model organization.”
