RAWALPINDI: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi office has summoned former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s close aide Javed Kiyani in connection with the ongoing investigation into the sugar scandal.
Javed Kiyani is currently the vice-chairman of the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PASMA) and was co-accused in the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif.
According to details, the anti-graft watchdog has also issued call-up notices to the former officer of the Ministry of Industries, Khizar Hayat to appear on April 14, whereas, the ministry’s ex-cost accountant Muzammil Pasha on April 13.
PASMA chairman Sikander Pasha has also been summoned to the corruption watchdog’s office, for the second time, next week. All persons will appear before a joint investigation team (JIT) headed by NAB Rawalpindi Director General (DG) Irfan Mangi while questionnaires were also sent to them.
The questionnaire sought details of fixing sugar prices in 2017 and which source mandated powers to them to ascertain the local and global prices. The bureau has also sought the records of the proposals forwarded from 2017-2019 for the subsidy on sugar.
PTI leader Jahangir Tareen has so far not been summoned by NAB Rawalpindi. He is being investigated by the Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) in another case.
