ISLAMABAD: Students from different universities, colleges and members of civil society on Wednesday launched a protest campaign press in Islamabad Press club against the increase in fees.
On this occasion, A number of students and members of civil society gathered outside Islamabad Press Club and held a demonstration against the rise in semester fees in universities and colleges.
They chanted slogans against the administrations of universities and colleges. Protesters claimed that fees were increased twice during the current year and the recent increase was unjustifiable.
They said that the fees of the university have been increased exponentially. Earlier the fee for the semester was Rs 20,000 but now the fee for the semester has been increased to Rs 80,000.
The protesters alleged after giving autonomy to the college the administration had for the first time increased the fee of semester regardless of the number of credit hours and COVID-19 pandemic.
“We can’t afford such high fees; our parents can’t bear such a burden, because all of us students come to Islamabad from far-flung parts of the country to study,” the students added.
They said, “We demand from Prime Minister Imran Khan and Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood that the increase in fees be withdrawn immediately or else the scope of the protest may be nationwide.”
