A tractor of Suthra Punjab, Punjab’s sanitation operation, ran over a five-year-old girl, killing her on the spot in Gujranwala, it emerged on Friday.
The incident occurred in Peoples Colony, where five-year-old Minha Shehzadi was playing in a street. According to eyewitnesses, the tractor driver was reversing the vehicle when the girl came under the tractor-trolley and was crushed to death at the scene.
Following the accident, the driver fled the scene, leaving the neighborhood in mourning.
Police have taken the Suthra Punjab tractor-trolley involved in the accident into custody and shifted it to the police station. Efforts are underway to locate and arrest the absconding driver.
The girl’s family has demanded justice over her death and urged authorities to take strict action against the driver responsible for the accident.
Last month, three people, including a seven-year-old boy, lost their lives while two others were injured in separate road accidents in Gujranwala and Bahawalnagar.
According to details, a seven-year-old boy was killed and his parents were injured after the motorcycle they were travelling on was struck by a speeding truck near Aziz Cross Chowk in Gujranwala.
