ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry today (Sunday) has announced that the PTI-led federal government was mulling over introducing a strong data protection law to protect citizens’ privacy.
Reacting to WhatsApp’s new Privacy Policy that allows data sharing of consumers, Fawad Chaudhry tweeted instead of adopting a unilateral approach, such policy changes should have been made after wider consultation.

WhatsApp started rolling out its app-update notifications earlier this week claiming there had been a change in its Terms of Services and Privacy Policy. Users were informed that the application was going to share user data, including their phone number and location, with Facebook and its subsidiaries.
The policy gives reasons for the data-sharing with Facebook: from ensuring better security and fighting spam to improving user experience, which was there in the previous policy as well.
Some privacy activists questioned the “accept our data grab or get out” move on Twitter, and suggested users to switch to apps like Signal and Telegram.
