Stocks rally as PSX-100 surges past 155,800 points

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed a strong rally on Wednesday morning, with the benchmark KSE-100 index climbing 1,837 points, or 1.18 per cent, to settle at 155,803.60 by 10am. The broader All-Share Index also advanced 1.13pc to 93,372.26, while the KSE-30 gained 611 points (1.29pc), reflecting widespread investor optimism.

Market activity remained robust, with over 55.6 million shares traded across 40,559 transactions, amounting to Rs.3.53 billion in value. Out of 567 active symbols, 323 advanced, 54 declined, and 190 remained unchanged, underscoring the bullish sentiment.

In sectoral performance, automobile assemblers showed mixed trends.

Indus Motor Company led the gains, rising Rs.13.06 to Rs1,810, while Ghandhara Industries added Rs6.66 to Rs.690. Honda Atlas Cars and Atlas Honda Ltd also posted modest increases. Conversely, Hinopak Motors fell sharply by Rs.7.11 to Rs.313.9, while Sazgar Engineering shed Rs.9.24 to Rs.1,747.5 on heavy volumes of nearly 50,000 shares. Dewan Motors slipped marginally despite being the most traded scrip in the sector.

Market observers say the PSX has displayed a clear bullish trend this week, with consecutive sessions of upward movement across major indices. The rally appears driven by renewed investor confidence, possibly linked to expectations of policy stability and improving macroeconomic indicators. The breadth of the advance — with more than 300 symbols in positive territory — suggests broad-based buying rather than isolated sectoral spikes.

Automobile assemblers, however, remain volatile, reflecting sector-specific pressures such as import costs and consumer demand fluctuations. While blue-chip names like Indus Motor and Ghandhara Industries are attracting buyers, smaller players such as Hinopak and Sazgar are facing profit-taking.

Overall, analysts believe, the market’s resilience points to a stable bullish phase, though selective volatility in auto and engineering counters indicates investors are still cautious about sectoral fundamentals.
