KARACHI: The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply to the industrial sector due to a worsening gas shortage, the company said on Saturday.

According to an official statement, the decision was taken to manage system pressure and ensure a stable gas supply to domestic and other priority consumers.

SSGC said that gas supply to industrial consumers, including captive power plants, will remain suspended for 24 hours. The shutdown will take effect from 8:00am on Sunday, April 12, and continue until 8:00am on Monday, April 13.

The company noted that the measure is aimed at improving “line pack” — a technical term referring to gas pressure within the pipeline system — in order to maintain uninterrupted supply to households.

Industrial consumers have been advised to plan their operations in line with the announced schedule.

Officials indicated that the suspension is part of broader efforts to cope with gas shortages while prioritising domestic users, particularly during periods of high demand.
