Sri Lanka on Thursday defeated Oman by 105 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Chasing a massive target of 226, Oman opened their innings with Aamir Kaleem and Jatinder Singh. Jatinder was dismissed for 1 run, while Aamir managed just 6. Hammad Mirza scored 9, Wasim Ali made 27, and Vinayak Shukla was run out for 1. Jatinder Ramanandi returned to the pavilion without scoring.

Apart from Mohammad Nadeem, no Omani batter made a significant contribution. Nadeem scored an unbeaten 53, as Oman finished on 120 for 9 in their allotted 20 overs, handing Sri Lanka a comprehensive 105-run victory.

Earlier, Sri Lanka posted 225 for 5 in 20 overs, the highest total of the ongoing T20 World Cup, after Oman won the toss and opted to field. Pathum Nissanka smashed 60 off 28 balls, while Kusal Mendis struck 61 off 45 deliveries. The pair shared a 94-run partnership, Sri Lanka’s highest for that wicket in T20 World Cup history.

Captain Dasun Shanaka blazed a 19-ball half-century, the fastest T20 International fifty for Sri Lanka.

For Oman, Jatinder Ramanandi claimed two wickets, while Jay Odedra and Sufyan Mahmood picked up one each.
