RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace in Afghanistan, saying that the spoilers will not be allowed to derail the Afghan peace process.
A 15-member delegation of Afghan media paid a visit to General Headquarters (GHQ) and met COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Speaking at the occasion, the Army Chief said media could act as a bridge to create a conducive environment for promoting cultural, social and people-to-people engagement between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “It is the responsibility of the media and the people to identify and defeat the spoilers of peace,” he added.
COAS Bajwa further said that peace in Afghanistan was Pakistan’s earnest desire because the stability of the two countries is interlinked. Referring to Pakistan’s comprehensive border management regime, he said the security of borders is in the best interest of the two countries.
Alluding to the benefits of regional connectivity for the two countries, the Army Chief highlighted the importance of restoration of peace in Afghanistan for sustainable development of the region.
The Afghan journalists thanked the Army Chief for the opportunity for candid interaction and appreciated Pakistan’s sincerity and efforts for Afghan people including hosting of refugees and facilitative role in the Afghan Peace Process.
