KARACHI: The Sindh government has imposed an immediate ban on pillion riding in Karachi for one month.
According to a notification issued by Sindh Home Department the ban has been imposed on pillion riding under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Pillion riding has been banned to maintain law and order situation, the home department said.
However, women, senior citizens and media persons will be exempted from the ban on pillion riding, according to the home department. Children under the age of 12 will also be exempted from the prohibition.
The home department has said that after incidents of hand grenade attacks and targeted killings in the city, the ban has been imposed on pillion riding on the recommendation of the law enforcement agencies i.e. police and rangers.
On Saturday, Renowned religions scholar Moulana Adil and his driver were killed by unidentified armed men in Karachi.
According to the details, Jamia Farooqia’s Moulana Adil was on his way when unidentified armed men riding on motorcycles opened firming on his vehicle in Shah Faisal Colony.
On being informed, rescue officials and police rushed to the scene and shifted them to the hospital where doctors pronounced them dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and Inspector General of Police (IGP) taking notice of the firing incident have directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi to submit an inquiry report into the matter.
They also directed to apprehend the suspects involved in the assassination of the religious scholar immediately.
CM Murad maintained that the miscreants wanted to create a law and order situation in the metropolis. The chief minister vowed to bring the killers to justice.
