Sindh govt awards Rs8.5 billion Karachi infrastructure projects to FWO

The Sindh government has awarded four major infrastructure projects in Karachi, worth approximately Rs8.5 billion, to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Work on three of the projects is expected to begin on the ground in August.

One of the flagship projects involves the construction of a flyover (interchange) near the Northern Bypass on the M-9 Super Highway.

As the structure will pass over the motorway, the Sindh Local Government Department has initiated the process of obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the National Highway Authority (NHA).

The proposed flyover is intended to improve connectivity between Jinnah Avenue, Malir Cantonment Road, Hyderabad, and the Sohrab Goth Sabzi Mandi area.

The project is expected to eliminate the need for long U-turns, easing traffic flow on both sides of the motorway.

The project carries an estimated cost of Rs2.30 billion, which also includes the rehabilitation and beautification of Jinnah Avenue.

Another major scheme includes the construction of a flyover at the intersection linking Abul Hasan Isphahani Road with Al-Asif Square on the motorway.

Estimated to cost Rs2.10 billion, construction is scheduled to commence in August. The flyover is expected to facilitate smoother traffic movement from all directions.

The development package also includes the reconstruction of Hawks Bay Road in two sections: from Y Junction to Machhli Chowk, spanning approximately 8.5 kilometres, and the left-side road from Machhli Chowk to Kakapir.

The combined cost of these road projects is estimated at Rs4.162 billion, with construction also expected to begin in August.

In addition, work on the Malir Halt Underpass project is expected to commence in the near future.
