The British Royal Family is bracing for more scandal as journalist Omid Scobie, a close friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, prepares to unveil further insider details in his upcoming book, “Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival.”
Among the revelations is the Royal Family’s response to the global Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in the USA. Scobie, who has covered the royals extensively, highlights the Palace’s seemingly indifferent stance on matters of race and racism.
“In my years covering the royals, the Palace’s nonchalant approach to issues of race and racism has consistently surprised me,” writes Scobie. He exposes the royal family’s disregard for a global civil rights movement that was influencing change worldwide.
Despite Scobie’s persistent attempts to seek guidance from Buckingham Palace on whether family members would acknowledge the significant moment of the BLM protests, his queries were met with conspicuous silence. The Palace, known for steering clear of anything deemed political, chose to ignore the BLM movement, which, in Britain, symbolized a stand against racism rather than political intricacies.
Reports from 2020 suggest that Prince Harry and Meghan were supporters of the BLM movement. Scobie previously disclosed that the couple engaged with activist groups to educate themselves on the issue.
Regarding Meghan’s personal connection to the cause, Scobie noted, “This is something that is incredibly personal to Meghan, especially given everything she has experienced.” The couple’s commitment to racial justice was evident when they spoke about George Floyd’s death during the 2022 NAACP Image Awards.
“As my husband and I spoke with the civil rights community, we committed ourselves and our organization, Archewell, to illuminating those who are advancing racial justice and progress,” remarked Meghan Markle, emphasizing the profound impact of George Floyd’s death on them and their dedication to supporting those working for racial justice.
