KHANEWAL: A Lahore to Karachi-bound Shalimar Express narrowly avoided tragedy on Sunday when one of its bogies derailed near the Khanewal Loco Shed, railway officials confirmed.
According to information gathered by MM News, the accident occurred after a rail wheel came off the trolley of the Shalimar Express. The detached wheel struck another bogie, causing a strong jolt that led to the derailment.
Fortunately, the train was operating at low speed at the time of the incident. Officials stated that no casualties or injuries were reported, calling it a “miraculous” escape for passengers.
A large contingent of railway administration employees rushed to the site immediately after receiving information about the derailment. Relief operations were launched without delay.
As part of the recovery effort, five bogies of the Shalimar Express were separated from the rake and moved to Khanewal Railway Station. Railway relief staff are currently working to restore the derailed bogies back onto the track.
Track Restoration
The railway administration said that both up and down tracks will be restored for normal operations after the relief train completes its work at the site. Further updates on train schedules are expected once clearance operations conclude.
An inquiry into the mechanical failure that caused the wheel to detach is likely to follow, though officials have not yet released a timeline.
