ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Jamhori Wattan Party (JWP) chairman Shahzain Bugti as his Special Assistant on Reconciliation and Harmony in Balochistan.

The JWP chief will hold talks with disgruntled Baloch leaders on political and national harmony to restore peace in the province and address their grievances. . Bugti has been given the status of a federal minister.

The Cabinet Division has issued a notification of appointment of Shahzain Bugti.  “The Prime Minister has been pleased to appoint Nawabzada Shahain Bugti MNA, as Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Reconciliation and Harmony in Balochistan, with immediate effect. The newly appointed SAPM was elected from Dera Bugti’s NA-259 constituency. His party is also an ally of the PTI-led government in the Centre. The appointment comes as the government is considering holding talks with disgruntled Baloch leaders for the sake of peace in the province.

Addressing a ceremony in Gwadar, the prime minister said he was mulling over speaking to the insurgents in Balochistan, as the situation in the province had changed, and Pakistan was moving towards a better future. He had said the insurgents might be upset with the state due to some past grievances or India might have used them to spread terror in Pakistan.
