A mysterious fire in Karachi’s Korangi Crossing area continued to burn on Tuesday, drawing large crowds despite the potential dangers.
The blaze erupted in the early hours on Saturday near an oil refinery when a local company was drilling for a tube well. While no casualties were reported, workers and bystanders quickly evacuated the area.
However, many curious residents ignored safety warnings, gathering at the site to take selfies and share videos on social media.
Rescue 1122 officials said that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but experts have advised against extinguishing it completely until the suspected underground gas leak is contained.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, collecting water and gas samples to assess the extent of underground deposits and potential risks.
The incident has captured widespread public attention, prompting Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori to reach out to Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi. Expressing concern, he called for immediate measures to control the fire and emphasized the need for rapid response efforts, including deploying helicopters if necessary.
