The Punjab government has banned the opening of all the government and private schools before 8:45 am due to smog.
According to a notification from the Punjab Environment Department, due to dangerously high smog in Lahore and other cities of Punjab, government and private schools across Punjab will not open before 8:45 am.
According to the notification, colleges and special education centres will also not open before 8:45 am. This order will be in effect from November 3 to January 31, 2026.
A school that violates the order will be fined Rs 100,000 to 500,000 for the first time and Rs 600,000 to 1,000,000 for a second violation.
DG Environment Punjab Imran Hamid Sheikh says that strict measures will continue for environmental protection.
Smog has been a serious issue in the province for many years, as in winter it badly affects everyday life in Punjab. CM Maryam Nawaz has taken many measures to control the situation, including using smog guns, but the result is not very fruitful.
