Electricity consumers across Pakistan are likely to face higher bills from September 2026 after the current relief provided to consumers expires this month.
According to details, the ongoing relief of Rs1.99 per unit for electricity consumers across the country, including K-Electric customers, is set to expire in August 2026. Following the end of the relief, electricity tariffs are expected to rise again from September.
Under the quarterly adjustment for January to March 2026, consumers were provided with relief worth more than Rs67.17 billion. The three-month relief period will come to an end this month.
Meanwhile, power distribution companies have approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking to recover more than Rs23 billion from consumers under the quarterly adjustment for April to June 2026.
If the new quarterly adjustment is approved, consumers could face an additional burden of around Rs1 per unit. However, the final amount will be determined following NEPRA’s public hearing.
Separately, NEPRA has approved an increase of Rs0.75 per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for June 2026. The additional amount will be recovered from consumers of K-Electric and all distribution companies through their August 2026 electricity bills.
However, the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment increase will not apply to lifeline consumers, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), or prepaid electricity consumers.
