The Sindh government has deferred its decision to form a judicial commission to investigate the Mir Raza case.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said the decision to establish the judicial commission had been put on hold for the time being following a request from the victim’s parents.
He said the decision to initiate a judicial inquiry had originally been taken to ensure transparency and provide reassurance to the bereaved family.
According to a statement, the family has expressed confidence in the newly formed investigation team, which will now proceed with investigating the matter.
It may be recalled that Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar had earlier announced the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the Mir Raza case.
Meanwhile, Mir Raza’s family lawyer, Jibran Nasir, said there was currently no need for a judicial commission in the case. He said Mir Raza’s parents had declined the proposal to establish a judicial commission during meetings with the mayor, the Sindh home minister and the additional inspector general.
He added that the parents had formally informed the authorities of their decision in writing and requested that the police investigation team be allowed to carry out its work in accordance with the law.
