Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Tuesday that the provincial government is working to unify all ride-hailing services operating in Karachi under a single, integrated system.
According to a press release from his office, the initiative aims to regulate online taxi services such as Careem and Yango to ensure passengers receive safe, legal, and standardized transport options.
Chairing a transport department meeting, Memon emphasized the government’s commitment to modernizing the city’s transport infrastructure.
He said that the unified platform would provide citizens with reliable and quality travel solutions. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Investment and Public-Private Partnerships Qasim Naveed Qamar, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, and Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kamal Dayo also attended the meeting.
Memon further revealed plans to introduce an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service in Karachi, highlighting its potential to enhance the transportation network while reducing environmental pollution.
The meeting also explored options to offer EV taxis to the public on affordable installment plans.
Moreover, Memon reiterated the government’s progress on distributing pink scooters to women, a project designed to improve women’s mobility and independence by offering free personal transport as part of a broader gender-inclusive transport policy.
