LONDON (REUTERS): Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen said that the resumption of the sport will uplift the morale of the people globally amid coronavirus crisis.
In an interview today (Monday), Kevin Pietersen said, “Fans, the public, need a morale boost. Their morale at the moment is so negative, so down in the dumps.”
“Sport is so uplifting and so positive for so many people. The new sport will have to be played behind closed doors until we find a vaccination for coronavirus. Sportsmen have got to deal with it,” he added.
He questioned why players don’t want to play behind closed doors. “Some sportsmen are in the prime of their life. Why would they not want to be playing? So what if the crowds are not there?” he added.
The middle-order batsman further said that it was an opportunity for cricket to have a serious look at solutions to problems shared by the entire cricketing world.
The spread of novel coronavirus has brought sport across the world to a standstill over the last two months. Major sports event around the world has been postponed or canceled.
