A Rawalpindi police official allegedly involved in kidnapping a citizen and extorting money has been arrested along with two accomplices after an inquiry found the allegations against him to be true.
According to officials, the police officer had threatened to implicate the citizen in a criminal case, abducted him, and released him after receiving money.
Following the complaint, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera took immediate notice and ordered an inquiry.
The inquiry confirmed the allegations, leading to the arrest of Constable Mohsin Zia and his two private accomplices from the CPO office. A case has been registered against the suspects on charges of kidnapping and extortion.
The police official was posted at Chaklala Police Station.
CPO Rawalpindi Hassan Mushtaq Sukhera said corruption and misuse of authority would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He stressed that police officers and personnel must remain careful in their conduct and performance of duties, adding that the department has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and any injustice or mistreatment of citizens.

Earlier in Lahore, two young women, suspected of stealing a small amount of cash and gold jewellery from a house, later died in the police custody under mysterious circumstances.
The women were brought to the Township police station when a local resident accused them of stealing money and gold ornaments from his house, however, health condition of both women worsened in police custody and died after shifting them to a hospital.
