LAHORE: Light rain and partly cloudy conditions brought a pleasant change to the weather in Lahore on Thursday as the country marked Independence Day, while the Meteorological Department forecast a 60 per cent chance of rain in the provincial capital throughout the day.

According to the latest weather data, Lahore’s temperature was recorded at 34 degrees Celsius, with the mercury expected to reach a maximum of 35°C and fall to around 27°C during the night. Winds were blowing at around 5 kilometres per hour, while humidity stood at 77 per cent.

Light rain was reported from several parts of the city, providing some relief from the hot and humid conditions experienced during the ongoing monsoon season.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has warned of thundershowers in various districts until August 15, with rainfall expected in upper and central parts of the province.

According to the PDMA, rain is likely in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra and Abbottabad, while Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Khyber, Mohmand and Kurram may also receive showers.

The authority warned that rainfall could trigger landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas, while low-lying parts of Mardan and Swabi face a risk of urban flooding.

The PDMA has directed relevant authorities to maintain continuous monitoring of rivers, streams and storm drains and remain prepared to respond to any weather-related emergency.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to follow official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and exercise particular caution in mountainous and low-lying areas as monsoon activity continues.
