LAHORE: The Punjab government has launched its largest tree plantation campaign under the Green Punjab Initiative, with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (Ruda) taking center stage on the occasion of Independence Day.
The campaign, spearheaded by DG EPA Syed Musa Raza and Parliamentary Secretary Kanwal Liaquat, aims to plant 50,000 trees across various areas within Ruda.
This ambitious drive aligns with the province’s broader mission to enhance green cover and promote eco-friendly urban development.
Green Corridors and Eco-Friendly Development
A key feature of the initiative is the establishment of green corridors stretching from the entrance of the industrial zone to villages and the CB-1 area.
These corridors are designed to integrate nature into urban planning, fostering a healthier and more sustainable environment.
The campaign prioritizes the plantation of indigenous and fruit-bearing trees, including jamun, guava, neem, and malta, ensuring both ecological benefits and long-term sustainability.
Expanding Greenery in Ruda’s Development Zones
Tree plantation efforts are actively underway in Awan Dhewala, Ganje Sadhwa, and Zahra Homes, with a focus on creating lush, green spaces.
Notably, the Zahra Homes project, being developed under Chief Minister Punjab’s “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” program, emphasizes eco-friendly construction, with special attention given to tree plantation to support sustainable living.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to transforming Ruda into a model of green urban development, ensuring that environmental conservation remains at the heart of Punjab’s growth strategy.
