Karachi, already grappling with the aftermath of heavy rainfall on April 14th, is bracing for another spell of rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms, expected to hit from April 17th through April 19th, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Monday.
The PMD has issued alerts for rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Larkana, Dadu, Qambar Shahdad Kot, Jamshoro, and Sanghar, starting from the night of April 17th until the morning of April 19th.
Furthermore, the PMD has cautioned about the arrival of another potent westerly wave, anticipated to enter western regions by Tuesday night, likely affecting most parts of Balochistan by Wednesday and extending to upper areas by Thursday.
The department has warned of potential flash floods in certain areas of Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Recent heavy rains have caused significant damage in Pasni, Gwadar, Balochistan, with rainwater inundating homes and businesses, forcing people to evacuate. Pasni experienced 89.1 millimeters of rain during a continuous downpour lasting four hours.
Tragically, at least four individuals lost their lives and seven others sustained injuries in rain-related incidents across various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Among the deceased were three children, while the injured included three women, three men, and a child. Nearly 15 houses were damaged, with 13 partially affected and two completely destroyed, as reported by PDMA.
