LAHORE: A Green Bus driver’s swift action and presence of mind led to the arrest of an alleged mobile phone thief and recovery of stolen property in Renala Khurd.
The incident occurred when a passenger alerted driver Rashid Khan that his smartphone had been stolen during the journey.
Instead of allowing the suspect to flee at the next stop, Khan made the critical decision to lock all bus doors and divert the entire vehicle directly to Sadar Renala Khurd police station.
Upon arrival at the police station, officers conducted a thorough search of the bus and its passengers.
The alleged thief, identified as Faisal (24), was found among the commuters, and the stolen mobile phone was recovered from a concealed location beneath a floor panel.
Police said Faisal has a prior criminal record for petty theft offenses. He was taken into custody for further investigation and interrogation.
Phone Returned to Owner
The recovered smartphone was handed over to its rightful owner, Ahmed, within the hour.
Ahmed commended the driver’s decisive action, saying it prevented what could have been a permanent loss.
“The driver’s quick thinking stopped the thief from escaping,” Ahmed told police. “Without his intervention, I would never have seen my phone again.”
Senior police officials have commended Rashid Khan for his exceptional civic responsibility and courage in handling the situation without panic or violence.
“This is an exemplary case of citizen cooperation with law enforcement,” said Detective Inspector Malik of Sadar Renala Khurd police station. “The driver’s presence of mind and decisive action ensured swift justice and property recovery.”
Police have registered a formal case against the suspect under charges of theft. Investigation is ongoing.
