KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has launched a formal crackdown following a criminal defamation complaint filed by Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, issuing official summonses to four individuals and initiating a forensic digital audit of social media accounts linked to a viral smear campaign.
The agency’s swift intervention comes after online rumors falsely linked the provincial minister and his family to the murder of 25-year-old entrepreneur Mir Raza Ali.

Acting on the formal petition submitted by Memon on August 9, NCCIA Karachi issued official notices directing four individuals—Syed Abdullah, Amin Qureshi, Bilal Warsi, and Obaid Qureshi—to appear at the agency’s Karachi headquarters at 11:30 AM on August 13.
According to the copies of the notices now available with MM News, the summoned individuals have been instructed to bring their original Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs), supporting documents, evidentiary materials, and primary digital devices for forensic evaluation.
Besides this, technical teams have initiated a full forensic audit across multiple social media platforms, targeting handles and pages suspected of originating and amplifying fabricated claims.
Digital Page Issues Public Apology
Following the NCCIA’s crackdown, the administrator of the prominent social media page “Karachi Stories” issued an official public clarification and retraction, tendering an unconditional apology to Sharjeel Memon for publishing unverified news regarding his alleged involvement in the case.
Investigators confirmed that regulatory action against other social media pages propagating the rumors remains ongoing.
Background: The Smear Campaign & Mir Raza Investigation
It may be recalled here that the cybercrime probe stems from viral social media posts alleging that the Gulistan-e-Jauhar guest house—a key crime scene in the Mir Raza murder investigation—was owned by Sharjeel Memon and used as the site where the victim was tortured.
Memon strongly rejected the claims as baseless and politically motivated, initiating legal action to protect his reputational standing.
The core murder inquiry itself has intensified following forensic findings of chemical acid traces, multiple broken ribs, and a rear-entry bullet wound, which disproved initial police claims of suicide.
Authorities recently upgraded the case to Section 302 (Pre-meditated Murder) of the PPC, suspended negligent field officers, sealed the guest house, and assigned a fresh Joint Investigation Team (JIT) under DIG Aamir Farooqi to interrogate 21 detained individuals and cross-match newly discovered foreign sweat DNA.
