The Punjab government has announced its decision to levy sanitation charges on residential properties, with rates varying according to house size and location.
In urban areas, households residing in 5 marla houses will be charged Rs. 300, while those in 10 marla houses will incur Rs. 500 in sanitation fees. Meanwhile, in rural regions, houses spanning up to 10 marlas will face a sanitation fee of Rs. 200, whereas larger houses will be subject to a charge of Rs. 500.
The province currently hosts 19.85 million residential units and 2 million commercial units.
During a pivotal meeting held in Lahore, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed a significant reduction of over 50% in the proposed sanitation charges. Additionally, she halted a planned escalation in water charges for hydropower projects, citing concerns over potential hikes in electricity costs.
It should be noted that soon after assuming the role of Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz directed a sanitation campaign across the province.
