LAHORE: Students from Punjab University won three gold medals while representing the Higher Education Commission (HEC) at the National Weightlifting Championship 2026, held at the Pakistan Sports Board Coaching Centre in Lahore, helping HEC secure the overall title in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

According to a statement issued by the university, Qasim Tasneem claimed the gold medal in the men’s 71kg category, while Abdullah Loon topped the men’s 79kg event. In the women’s competition, Sehar Wain, a student of Punjab University Law College’s Gujranwala Campus, won the gold medal in the 58kg category with an impressive performance.

He also extended congratulations to HEC Chairman Dr Niaz Ahmed and HEC Director General Sports Rizwan Shaukat, expressing confidence that the athletes would continue to bring laurels to both Punjab University and HEC in future national and international competitions.

Punjab University Director Sports Dr Shabbir Sarwar commended the outstanding efforts of the athletes, coaches and support staff. He particularly acknowledged the contribution of Deputy Director Sports and Games In-charge Muhammad Atique Khan for his leadership, coordination and commitment in preparing and managing the university’s men’s weightlifting squad.

Dr Sarwar also congratulated Mushtaq Ahmed, manager of the HEC men’s team, and Ali Raza, manager of the HEC women’s team, for their role in the championship-winning campaign.
