ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased the Pakistan Television (PTV) fee from Rs 35 to Rs 100.
Earlier, the PTV Board of Directors approved to increase the fee in their financial plan during the 232nd meeting on January 8.
The Managing Director of the state run TV had informed the board that TV licence fee is collected from clients all over the world and in Pakistan TV fee is far less than many neighbouring countries.
They had said that the PTV fee has not been increased for the last 10-years despite the fact that prices of all product and commodities have climbed during the time.
The PTV fee is being collected through electricity bills from the consumers each month. The government is expected to collect Rs21 billion from the electricity consumers by raising the PTV fee annually.
This means that people across the country have to pay the amount whether they watch the channel or not, while the government has not yet paid Rs 6bn due to media houses for advertisements.
