ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has warned against imposing ‘economic emergency’ in the country, saying it would have serious security implications.

Senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, taking to Twitter on Saturday, said there have been some talks about imposing ‘economic emergency’ in Pakistan in order to continue the PDM-led coalition government. Warning against the idea, he said “this will have serious security implications and our nuclear program will become focus of enemy propaganda while our freedom will become a mere formality.”

His comments came after multiple media reports suggesting failure in Pakistan-IMF talks unless and until the Islamabad government took tangible measures to satisfy the global lender. These ‘satisfactory’ measures include introducing new taxes to the tune of Rs. 170 billion by way of announcing a ‘mini budget’, as declared by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar the other day in a lengthy presser.

Fawad Chaudhry said “the integrity of the country is being put at stake by resisting such stupid policies. After conducting general elections in the country, the government should be transferred to the elected people. Playing with the future of the country must stop.”
