LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz has once again lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), saying that its leadership was facing rebellion within the party.
Talking to journalists today (Thursday) along with PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the PML-N vice president claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s support was dwindling within the PTI.
Referring to PDM’s joint candidate from Islamabad, former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani, Maryam said that Gillani was not only the PDM’s candidate but he has an affable personality. “The PML-N fully backs him as its joint candidate for the Senate seat,” she added.
“I hope every pro-democracy person will not vote for the PTI in the Senate polls because we think the PTI is guilty of crimes against the people and Imran Khan is guilty of crimes against the nation,” added Maryam.
Talking about the Establishment, she said, “In my opinion, if they are not involved in politics, then it is better for not only them but also for our institutions and for democracy in the country.”
Taking over the presser, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto said that the government had suffered defeats in the recent by-elections, from Pishin to Sialkot. “The people have rejected PTI in every by-election,” he added.
“I believe two decisions taken by the PDM — one to contest the by-elections and the other to partake in the Senate polls — have completely changed the political situation and has made the government anxious,” Bilawal remarked.
He further said, “When it comes to sending this government home, we will also decide as to when we will do that, through consensus.” In response to a question, he said, “Yes, we are in contact with every member of the parliament and are trying to get them to vote for our candidates.
PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and the PML-N vice president had met to discuss political developments as the Senate elections loom near and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) gears up to give the government a tough time in the polls.
