ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee has decided not to return to National Assembly.
The meeting of the core committee was under the chairmanship of PTI chief Imran Khan in Peshawar on Monday. According to sources, there was a division between the PTI members on whether or not to return to the National Assembly.
According to reports, Aamir Dogar and Ali Mohammad Khan suggested returning to the National Assembly. Ali Mohammad Khan also suggested that PTI should remain part of the standing committees of the National Assembly.
PTI chief Imran Khan and former planning minister Asad Umar opposed the return of PTI to the National Assembly. Imran Khan was of the view that thousands of people did not come out to participate in the PTI long march so that “he could go to the National Assembly and sit with the thieves”.
The meeting also decided not to leave the election field empty for political opponents and participate in the by-elections in Punjab.
Later while speaking to a private channel, PTI senior leader Asad Umar asserted that the party’s core committee has not taken any decision on returning to the National Assembly.
Asad Umar rejected reports of PTI returning to National Assembly. “We have heard that the government wants us to return to the assembly, but the government has not asked us to return,” he said.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf is all set to begin meeting 131 PTI lawmakers who resigned from their assembly seats, to verify their resignations. The PTI members have been invited individually for verification of their resignations.
The letters have been sent to 131 PTI members and the verification process will start on June 6, 2022, and will continue till June 10 when the budget will be passed.
As per the system devised, every MNA will get five minutes to confirm if their resignations were voluntary and genuine. The NA Secretariat has sent letters to all PTI members who tendered resignations on April 11, 2022.
