Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has officially acquired 100% of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers, marking a major consolidation in the country’s telecom sector.
The acquisition, finalized on December 31, 2025, follows all required regulatory approvals, including from the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
Under the plan, Telenor Pakistan will initially continue operating as a separate legal entity during a transition period.
In the next phase, it is expected to merge with PTCL’s mobile arm, Ufone 4G, to form a single entity, tentatively called MergeCo, pending further regulatory clearance.
The merged operations are projected to make the combined entity Pakistan’s second-largest mobile operator, holding around 35% of the country’s total subscriber base. The consolidation aims to enhance network quality and coverage, improve customer experience, and optimize spectrum resources for potential future services, including 5G.
PTCL assured that there will be no immediate disruption to services or employment for Telenor Pakistan’s customers and employees during the transition period.
Industry analysts note that the move is a strategic step toward strengthening PTCL’s position in the competitive mobile market, offering the potential for improved service offerings and nationwide connectivity.
