The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated the process of granting licenses to Virtual Private Network (VPN) service providers under the Class Value Added Services (CVAS-Data) regime.
According to details, the PTA had formulated a new strategy in December last year for the registration of VPNs, as previous efforts — including warnings about bans on unregistered VPNs — had failed to produce the desired results.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority stated that it has resumed issuing Class licenses for data services to service providers in Pakistan.
In a press release issued today, the telecom regulator said that the licensing under the Class Value Added Services (Data) regime aims to regulate the provision of secure and legal VPN services in Pakistan, while ensuring compliance with national regulations and data security standards.
PTA informed that it has issued Class licenses to several companies, including Alpha Three Cubic, Vision Tech 360, and others.
Under a Class license, multiple users can operate without individual approval under a general set of conditions.
The telecom regulator said that these licensed companies are authorized to provide VPN services to individual and organizational users for legal and legitimate purposes.
